Mirrors are for Lovers; ITS OKAY TO LOVE YOURSELF BACK.

I find that during the pandemic we all struggle at some point with feeling alone in a new and unexplored way. We can feel like we are the only one experiencing what we experience and that the isolation is incredibly defining. I know on a more humanistic level that this solitary experience cannot actually be isolated. We are all going through something limiting and so we are all experiencing levels of involuntary solitary confinement together. In this conceptual performance art piece, I am investigating and diving into the sentiment that we are not actually alone in our feelings at all. What we are feeling and experiencing even down to looking in the mirror at a reflection of ourselves is not unique. We can all take comfort in the notion that we are feeling something universal and something that is not forever. There is beauty in limitation, in pain, and in the realization that you are never truly alone in what you face.

Mirrors are for Lovers; ITS OKAY TO LOVE YOURSELF BACK is a remixed version of Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel (mirror in the mirror) for clarinet and piano, soft synth layers, and drum kit solo. This video was made by Cassie Greer, Micah Hummel, Alex Meltzer, D. Neil Blake, Tylor Neist, and Lisa
